How to organise a weekly game

Every great weekly game starts with one organised person.

A regular game lives or dies with its organiser. The good news: it does not take much time if you keep a simple routine. Here is what works for most groups.

1. Fix the slot

Pick the same day, time and pitch every week. A fixed slot is easier to remember than a new date each time, and many venues give a better price for a block booking.

2. Build a squad bigger than one game

For 5-a-side you need ten players, but a squad of 14 to 16 means you will still have enough on weeks when people are ill, travelling or tired. Add everyone to the Squad tab with their position and level.

3. Ask early, close the list on time

Send the call-up two or three days before the game and set a deadline, for example the evening before. Mark answers as In, Maybe or Out. The progress bar shows at a glance how many you still need – and the Share button writes the message for you.

4. Split the costs fairly

Agree on one simple rule: everyone who plays pays an equal share of the pitch fee. Rounding up a little creates a small kitty for new balls and bibs. Try it:

5. Keep it friendly

Fair teams, a short warm-up, a quick handshake at the end and a clean pitch keep people coming back – and new players welcome.
